Delmuskler, also known as deltoids, are the muscles that form the rounded contour of the shoulder. They are a group of three muscles: the anterior (front) deltoid, the lateral (middle) deltoid, and the posterior (rear) deltoid. These muscles originate from the clavicle (collarbone) and the scapula (shoulder blade) and insert onto the humerus (upper arm bone).

The primary function of the deltoid muscles is to move the arm. The anterior deltoid is responsible for flexing the arm at the shoulder joint, which means bringing the arm forward. It also assists in medial rotation of the arm. The lateral deltoid is primarily responsible for abducting the arm, which is lifting the arm away from the body. The posterior deltoid is responsible for extending the arm at the shoulder joint, moving the arm backward, and also assists in lateral rotation of the arm.

These muscles are crucial for a wide range of everyday activities, from lifting and carrying objects to throwing and swimming. In sports, strong deltoids are essential for athletes in disciplines such as weightlifting, baseball, swimming, and tennis. Training the deltoids involves exercises that target each of the three heads, often including overhead presses, lateral raises, and front raises. Due to their prominent position, well-developed deltoids contribute significantly to the aesthetic appearance of the shoulder.
