Delegerte is a word form used in several Germanic languages to indicate that authority or tasks have been transferred to another person or unit. In Norwegian Bokmål, delegerte is the past tense form of the verb delegerere, meaning to delegate. Danish uses delegerede and Swedish uses delegerade for the corresponding past tense or past participle forms. In English, the closest form is delegated, used as both a verb past tense and an adjective (the delegated tasks). The concept is central in management, governance and organizational policy, and is known as delegation of authority. It refers to the assignment of responsibility and decision-making powers from a superior to a subordinate or to a subordinate organization, subject to defined limits, reporting lines, and accountability.
