deikenlii

Deikenlii alba is an evergreen shrub reaching 1.5–3 meters tall. Leaves are opposite, 6–12 cm long, with three prominent nerves. Inflorescences are terminal panicles bearing small white to pale pink flowers. The fruit is a berry containing several seeds.

The genus is described as endemic to montane forests on the fictional Island of Deiken in the Western Ghats region, at elevations of about 1200–1800 meters. The climate is humid and cool, with a distinct monsoon season.

Taxonomically, the genus is placed in the Melastomataceae, within the tribe Melastomeae. The name honors the botanist Deiken Li, who is credited with early fieldwork on the island. The type species is Deikenlii alba.

Ecology and conservation are described as pollination by native bees and seed dispersal by frugivorous birds. In the fictional setting, Deikenlii alba is not considered endangered, though habitat loss is noted as a potential threat.
