Deenergiseret is a Danish term used to describe equipment or systems from which electrical energy has been removed, so that the device cannot be powered or energized. In practice, it denotes the safe state achieved after energy sources have been isolated and the equipment has been made non-operational for maintenance, testing, or repair.

Achieving deenergisation involves several steps. First, the power source is identified and disconnected or switched off. Second, energy isolation devices are applied, such as circuit breakers, fuses, or switches, often accompanied by a lockout or tagout to prevent re-energising. Third, the absence of voltage is verified with properly rated testing equipment before work begins. Fourth, any stored energy is discharged or blocked, including capacitors, springs, and other potentially releasing energy; grounding or bonding may be used where appropriate.

Residual energy can remain in capacitors, inductors, hydraulic or pneumatic accumulators, and mechanical restraints. Because of this, continuous vigilance and verification are essential, and deenergisation procedures are considered part of broader electrical safety practices in maintenance and testing.

Standards and guidelines governing deenergisation emphasize comprehensive energy isolation, verification, and protective measures. In many jurisdictions, frameworks such as NFPA 70E in North America and EN 50110-1 in Europe address lockout-tagout, verification, and safe work practices to reduce the risk of electric shock and arc flash.
