In essence, it aims to recover an original signal or image from a blurred or degraded version of it, where the degradation is modeled as a convolution operation. Convolution is a process where one function is multiplied by another function and then integrated. This often occurs in fields like image processing, signal processing, and even in areas like seismology and astronomy.

When an image is taken, for example, it might be blurred due to the camera's optics, motion blur, or atmospheric effects. This blurring can be mathematically represented as a convolution of the original sharp image with a "blur kernel" or "point spread function" (PSF).
