Darázsok is the Hungarian word for wasps. Wasps are flying insects of the order Hymenoptera, distinguished from bees by their narrower waists and lack of hairy bodies. They are a diverse group, with thousands of species found worldwide. Wasps play an important role in ecosystems as predators, controlling populations of other insects, and as pollinators.

There are two main categories of wasps: solitary and social. Solitary wasps, as the name suggests, live and reproduce alone. They typically build individual nests and provision them with prey for their young. Social wasps, on the other hand, live in colonies with a queen and many sterile female workers. These colonies can range in size from a few dozen to thousands of individuals. Social wasps are known for building elaborate nests, often made from chewed wood pulp mixed with saliva, which form a paper-like material.

Wasps are often perceived negatively due to their ability to sting. While most wasps are not aggressive towards humans unless provoked or their nests are threatened, some species can deliver painful stings. The sting is a modified ovipositor used for defense and, in some cases, for paralyzing prey. Unlike bees, wasps can sting multiple times. Their diet varies, with many species feeding on nectar, other insects, or even carrion.
