Dando is a present participle or gerund of the verb dar in several Romance languages, most notably Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian. It denotes an ongoing or progressive action connected with the verb to give or to provide and is typically used with auxiliary verbs to form continuous tenses.

In Portuguese, Portuguese-speaking contexts form progressive aspect with estar or ficar plus the gerund: Ele está dando dinheiro. This means “He is giving money.” The gerund dá a sense of the action in progress and can appear in constructions such as dando uma desculpa (giving an excuse) or dando uma festa (throwing a party, in some regional usages).

In Spanish, the same function applies: está dando dinero means “is giving money.” Spanish uses the gerund with estar to express ongoing actions, as in está dando una conferencia (is giving a lecture).

In Italian, the gerund of dare is also dando, used with forms of stare or other auxiliary constructions to indicate ongoing action: Sto dando un regalo (I am giving a gift).
