Users would need to stoke a fire to heat water and generate steam, which would then drive a piston connected to the rear wheel.

While conceptually intriguing, dampkraftsykler faced numerous practical challenges. Their weight due to the boiler and engine made them cumbersome. Starting the engine was a time-consuming process, requiring significant preparation and heating. The limited range and the need to carry water and fuel also presented significant drawbacks.
