Dünnschichtungen, also known as thin film deposition, refers to a broad range of processes used to deposit a thin solid film onto a substrate. There are two primary categories of thin film deposition: physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Examples of CVD include plasma-enhanced CVD (PECVD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD), which offers exceptional control over film thickness and uniformity.

Thin films find widespread applications in numerous fields. They are crucial in the semiconductor industry for fabricating integrated circuits, in optics for creating anti-reflective coatings and filters, in electronics for making sensors and conductive layers, and in materials science for improving surface properties like hardness or corrosion resistance.
