Cycleevaporation is a term used to describe a cyclical evaporation-condensation process that operates within a closed loop. In these systems, a working fluid absorbs heat to vaporize, then travels to a condenser where it releases latent heat and returns as a liquid to the evaporator to repeat the cycle. The repeating cycle enables continuous heat transfer and, in many designs, some degree of mass separation, often with the potential to reuse thermal energy.

Principles and configurations vary. Evaporation typically occurs at reduced pressure or temperature, while condensation happens after heat rejection at higher pressure. Common implementations include multi-effect arrangements, where vapor from one stage provides heat for the next, increasing overall efficiency, and vapor-compression variants, where a compressor moves vapor between stages to sustain the cycle. These features allow cycle evaporation to support heating, cooling, desalination, or concentration tasks using heat sources such as waste heat or solar energy.

Applications and limitations. Desalination and solution concentration are frequent contexts, as are certain refrigeration and heat-storage schemes that rely on phase change to shuttle energy. In industrial settings, cycle evaporation can reduce net energy penalties when waste heat is available or when integrated with other processes. However, the approach can introduce system complexity and risks such as corrosion or fouling from cycling fluids. Non-ideal condensation and pumping losses also reduce efficiency. The term is not universally standardized, and related processes are often described with more specific labels like multi-effect evaporation, vapor-compression distillation, or evaporative cooling cycles.
