The csuklóízület, or wrist joint, is a complex articulation in the human arm that connects the hand to the forearm. It is a synovial joint that allows for a wide range of motion, essential for daily activities. Anatomically, it comprises three main joints: the radiocarpal joint, the midcarpal joint, and the carpometacarpal joints.

The radiocarpal joint is formed between the distal end of the radius (the larger bone in the forearm) and the proximal row of carpal bones, specifically the scaphoid, lunate, and triquetrum. This is the primary joint responsible for flexion, extension, radial deviation, and ulnar deviation of the wrist.

The midcarpal joint is located between the proximal and distal rows of carpal bones. It contributes to the overall movement of the wrist, working in conjunction with the radiocarpal joint.

The carpometacarpal joints are formed between the distal row of carpal bones and the metacarpal bones, which are the bones of the palm. These joints are primarily responsible for thumb opposition and some degree of flexion and extension of the fingers.

The wrist joint is reinforced by a network of ligaments, which provide stability and prevent excessive movement. These include the volar and dorsal radiocarpal ligaments, the collateral ligaments, and the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC), which plays a crucial role in stabilizing the distal radioulnar joint and the ulnar side of the wrist. The joint is also surrounded by a capsule and lined with synovium, which produces lubricating fluid. Injuries to the csuklóízület, such as sprains, fractures, and conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome, can significantly impact hand function and overall quality of life.
