Crosshemispheric is an adjective describing processes, connections, or structures that cross from one cerebral hemisphere to the other or involve both hemispheres. In neuroscience, crosshemispheric communication refers to the transfer and integration of information between the left and right halves of the brain.

The most prominent crosshemispheric pathway is the corpus callosum, a large bundle of commissural fibers that links homologous regions across hemispheres and enables rapid interhemispheric transfer of sensory, motor, and cognitive information. Modern imaging techniques, including diffusion tensor imaging and functional MRI, map crosshemispheric tracts and functional connectivity, and electrophysiological methods assess interhemispheric synchronization.

Developmentally, commissural systems form early to establish interhemispheric connectivity. Abnormalities such as callosal agenesis or hypoplasia can disrupt crosshemispheric transfer and are associated with various neurodevelopmental conditions. The term crosshemispheric is used across disciplines to describe phenomena that involve crossing or communication between the two cerebral hemispheres, reflecting the brain’s integrated but laterally specialized architecture.
