counterflange
A counterflange is a component used in pipe fitting and mechanical assembly. It is a flange that is threaded internally, allowing it to be screwed onto a threaded pipe end or another threaded fitting. Unlike a standard slip-on flange, which is welded to the pipe, a counterflange provides a demountable joint. This threaded connection offers an advantage in applications where disassembly for maintenance, inspection, or repair is a requirement. The counterflange typically has a raised face or flat face on the opposite side, designed to mate with a similar flange surface, creating a seal with a gasket. When two counterflanges are brought together, they are usually secured with bolts and nuts that pass through the bolt holes on both flanges. The internal threading of the counterflange allows it to be easily installed and removed from the pipe without the need for cutting or welding, making it a convenient choice for certain industrial and commercial applications.
