A consigner, a variant spelling of consignor, is a person or business that sends goods to another party for storage, sale, or transport while retaining ownership until specified conditions are met.

In logistics and shipping, the consigner initiates a shipment and provides the goods. On bills of lading and related documents, the consigner is listed as the shipper and bears responsibilities for packaging, labeling, and compliance with shipping terms.

In consignment arrangements, the consigner delivers goods to a retailer or agent who sells on the consigner's behalf. Ownership remains with the consigner until sale; the consignee earns a commission and remits payment for sold items.

Contractual terms cover risk of loss, insurance, and returns of unsold goods. Revenue is typically recognized when items are sold, or according to the timing specified in the agreement.

The main counterpart is the consignee, the recipient of the goods who may act as agent or buyer under the terms of the arrangement.
