When melted, Cr2O3 brings about breaking down and produces pink or violet glass. When heated above 900 degrees Celsius, chromium oxide is excessively unstable and gets easily disintegrated.

Reactions with acids

When exposed to various acids, the resulting salts get formed. Examples include hydrochloric acid (HCl) for which (KCr2O2Cl3) is produced, and when undergoes the reaction with nitric acid (HNO3), Cr2O3 forms (NH4)2Cr2O2(N3)3.
