chiesto

Chiesto is the past participle of chiedere, the Italian verb meaning to ask or to request. The form derives from Latin quaerere, meaning to seek or inquire. In standard Italian, chiesto is used to form compound tenses with the auxiliary avere: ho chiesto, hai chiesto, ha chiesto, abbiamo chiesto, avete chiesto, hanno chiesto.

Usage: Chiesto is used to report requests or questions, or to say that someone asked for something. Examples: Ho chiesto un chiarimento al professore. Abbiamo chiesto informazioni sull'orario.

Notes: The noun for “a request” is usually richiesta or domanda; chiesto remains primarily a participle. In some contexts, especially with pronouns before the verb, the participle may show agreement with a preceding direct object.
