Celsiusastetta, or degree Celsius, is a unit of temperature used on the Celsius scale. It is denoted by the symbol °C and is widely used for everyday weather, cooking, and scientific measurements.

The Celsius scale defines 0 °C as the freezing point of water at standard atmospheric pressure and 100 °C as the boiling point of water at the same pressure. The interval between these two fixed points is divided into 100 equal degrees, so each degree represents an equal step in temperature. A temperature interval measured in degrees Celsius is numerically the same as the corresponding interval in kelvin, since a change of 1 °C equals a change of 1 K.

In the International System of Units (SI), the kelvin is the base unit for thermodynamic temperature, and the degree Celsius is a supplementary unit. The relationship between the two scales is T(K) = T(°C) + 273.15. This means that 0 °C corresponds to 273.15 K.

History and usage: The Celsius scale was developed by Anders Celsius in the 18th century. It was originally defined with inverted points (0 °C as the boiling point and 100 °C as the freezing point) and later reversed to the modern convention.
