A caneveralista is a follower or adherent of the political and social doctrines espoused by the Colombian politician Jorge Eliécer Gaitán. Gaitán, a prominent figure in mid-20th century Colombian politics, was a lawyer and orator known for his populist appeal and his focus on social justice and the rights of the working class. His political movement, often referred to as Gaitánismo, gained significant traction during his lifetime.

The term "caneveralista" derives from the nickname Gaitán sometimes used, "el Negro," and a specific white shirt he was known to wear, the "camisa de once varas" or "eleven-yard shirt." This shirt, often interpreted as a symbol of his humble origins and his commitment to representing the common people, became associated with his followers. Caneveralistas are typically characterized by their loyalty to Gaitán's memory and his platform, which advocated for land reform, nationalization of key industries, and greater political participation for marginalized sectors of society.

The assassination of Jorge Eliécer Gaitán in 1948, an event known as El Bogotazo, had a profound and lasting impact on Colombian history, sparking widespread riots and contributing to decades of political violence.
