caéis

Caéis is the second-person plural present indicative form of the Spanish verb caer, meaning you all fall or you all are falling. It is used with the informal vosotros subject pronoun, which is standard in Spain and in some other regions, but not common in much of Latin America where ustedes is used instead.

Caer is an irregular verb in some present forms; its yo form is caigo, and its third-person forms are cae and caen. The vosotros form caéis follows the regular -er present indicative endings for vosotros (as with other verbs such as coméis), but the stem of caer remains irregular in other persons. The spelling includes an accent on the e to indicate stress: caéis.

Usage varies by region. In Spain and some communities that use vosotros, caéis is routinely heard in conversation and writing. In many Latin American varieties, the vosotros form is replaced by ustedes, and the corresponding present indicative is caen (they fall) or ustedes caen. Examples: “Vosotros caéis al suelo si no os sujetáis.” and “Ustedes caen al suelo si no tienen cuidado.” The form caéis can also appear in written instruction or literature that preserves the vosotros paradigm.
