Burkoló, in Hungarian usage, is a tradesperson who installs tile and other surface coverings in buildings. They work with ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tiles, glass mosaic and certain synthetic materials, on floors and walls in spaces such as bathrooms, kitchens and entrances, as well as exterior surfaces where appropriate. Core tasks include substrate preparation, applying appropriate adhesives, laying tiles in precise patterns, cutting tiles to fit around obstacles, maintaining proper spacing and alignment, and grouting and sealing joints. In wet areas they may install waterproofing membranes and, where required, underfloor heating, insulation or decoupling systems. After installation they clean and inspect the work and may perform repairs or removals of existing tiling.
