The production approach sums the gross value added by all resident producer units, plus taxes on products and minus subsidies. Gross value added is the difference between the value of output and the value of intermediate consumption. The expenditure approach sums final consumption expenditure, gross capital formation, and net exports. The income approach sums compensation of employees, operating surplus, and taxes less subsidies.
