Brottmålsprocess refers to the legal proceedings that follow an accusation of a crime in Sweden. It is designed to establish whether a crime has been committed and, if so, to determine the appropriate legal consequences for the perpetrator. The process typically begins with an investigation conducted by the police, often initiated by a report from a victim or a witness. During the investigation, evidence is gathered, witnesses are interviewed, and the suspect may be questioned.

In court, the prosecution, represented by a prosecutor, presents evidence and arguments against the accused. The accused, who has the right to legal representation, presents their defense. Key stages in the court process include an initial hearing, where the charges are formally presented and plea entered, and the main hearing, where evidence is presented, and witnesses testify.
