Bourbon is a type of American whiskey, a distilled spirit made primarily from corn. To be legally called bourbon, it must be produced in the United States, made from a mash bill of at least 51% corn, and aged in new, charred oak barrels. Bourbon does not have a minimum age requirement, but any bourbon aged for a specific period must be labeled as such. It must also be distilled to no more than 160 proof and entered into the barrel at no more than 125 proof. There are no artificial coloring or flavoring additives permitted.
