Bottomground is a rarely used term that lacks a single, universally accepted definition. In general usage, it combines “bottom” and “ground” to refer to the lowest part of a surface, layer, or environment in a given context. Because it is not established in major reference works, its meaning is best inferred from surrounding terminology.

In 3D graphics and digital imaging, bottom ground may appear as an informal label for the ground plane that lies at the bottom portion of a scene or image. In this context, it describes the visible terrain or floor under objects and is closely related to the concept of the ground plane or horizon line.

In geology, geography, or civil engineering, writers sometimes use bottom ground to denote the lowest substrate or base level associated with a feature, such as a sedimentary sequence’s base, bedrock, or the interface with underlying formations.
