A bordlamper, a term used in Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish for a table lamp, is a light fixture designed to sit on a table, desk, or other small surface. It provides localized illumination for reading, writing, and other close tasks, and its shade helps control glare.

A typical bordlamper consists of a base, a stem or arm, and a lampshade, with a socket for a light bulb and a switch on the cord or base. Many models include adjustable height, tilting or swinging mechanisms, and dimming. Materials range from metal and wood to glass and plastic. LEDs are now common, offering energy efficiency and long life; older models may use incandescent or compact fluorescent lamps.

Placement and design should suit the task and room style. For task lighting, the shade should direct light toward the work surface without causing glare on books or screens. Typical color temperatures for task lighting range from 2700 to 4000 K, with higher temperatures for crisper light. Lumen output varies with size, but 300–600 lumens at the work surface is common for reading tasks.
