Bombardier Inc. is a Canadian multinational manufacturer based in Montreal, Quebec, known for its long history in aerospace and rail transportation. Founded in 1942 by Joseph-Armand Bombardier as a snowmobile maker, the company expanded into broader transportation and industrial equipment, ultimately growing through a series of acquisitions and reorganizations that positioned it as a major player in both aerospace and rail.

In the aerospace sector, Bombardier expanded its product line through acquisitions and development of platforms such as the Challenger and Global business jets, and the regional jet program that culminated in the CRJ series. A central milestone was the CSeries program, a narrow-body airliner developed for commercial aviation. In 2018, Airbus acquired a majority stake in the CSeries, which was subsequently rebranded as the Airbus A220, with Bombardier gradually divesting its remaining interest by 2020. In parallel, Bombardier’s rail activities operated under Bombardier Transportation for many years, supplying rolling stock and systems to transit authorities around the world.

In 2021, Bombardier completed the sale of its transportation unit to Alstom, effectively narrowing the company to its aerospace operations. The company’s Recreational Products division, previously known as Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), was spun off earlier as an independent entity. Since these transformations, Bombardier has focused on civil aviation, producing and supporting business jets and related services, with manufacturing and service facilities in Canada, the United States, Europe, and other regions.
