Boltozatos is an architectural term used to describe spaces or buildings that feature a vaulted ceiling formed by arches. The word derives from boltozat, the vaulted structure itself, with the suffix -os indicating a characteristic or condition. A boltozatos space is one in which the ceiling or roof is created by one or more arches, producing a curved upper surface.

A boltozat, or vault, spans a space and transfers its weight to adjacent supports such as walls or columns. It is typically constructed from individual blocks or tiles arranged as voussoirs around a central keystone, shaping a continuous arch. In more complex forms, ribs or framing elements may be added to reinforce the structure and define the vault’s geometry. The result is a durable, load‑bearing ceiling that can cover large spans.
