A bodhrán is a frame drum of Ireland. It is a large, shallow frame, traditionally made of wood, with a goatskin or other animal skin stretched across one side. The frame is typically between 10 and 26 inches in diameter and 3 to 5 inches deep. The drum is played with a small, often stick-like beater, called a "tipper" or "cipín". The player typically holds the drum on their lap or against their body, and uses their free hand on the inside of the skin to alter the pitch and timbre of the sound.
The bodhrán is a relatively modern instrument in its current form, with its widespread use in Irish
