Blodtrycksfall, also known as hypotension, refers to a condition where blood pressure is lower than normal. While often asymptomatic, a significant drop in blood pressure can lead to symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting (syncope), blurred vision, nausea, and fatigue. The normal blood pressure range varies between individuals, but generally, a reading below 90/60 mmHg is considered low.

There are several causes for blood pressure to fall. These can include dehydration, significant blood loss, severe infections (sepsis), certain medications like diuretics or antihypertensives, heart conditions such as arrhythmias or heart failure, and endocrine problems like adrenal insufficiency. Orthostatic hypotension, a specific type of blood pressure drop, occurs when a person stands up from a sitting or lying position, causing a sudden decrease in blood pressure.

In many cases, mild hypotension may not require treatment. However, if it causes symptoms, medical evaluation is recommended to identify the underlying cause. Treatment strategies depend on the cause and can involve increasing fluid and salt intake, adjusting medications, or addressing specific medical conditions. Severe or sudden drops in blood pressure can be a sign of a serious medical emergency and require immediate attention.
