biològic

Biològic is an adjective in Catalan with two main senses. In scientific language it means related to biology, the science that studies living organisms, their structure, function, development and interactions. In everyday usage the term also appears in relation to organic or life-related production systems, especially concerning food and farming. The second sense is often linked to labeling and consumer information, where biològic denotes products produced through processes considered natural or organic.

Etymology and forms. Biològic derives from the prefix bio- (life) combined with the suffix -lògic (relating to knowledge or discourse). The masculine form is biològic and the feminine biològica; plural forms are biològics and biològiques depending on gender and number.

Usage in context. In science, phrases such as estu di biològic de les cèl·lules or processos biològics are common. In everyday language, you will encounter productes biològics, aliment biològic or agri cultural biològica, among others, to indicate organic or life-related qualities. The term can overlap with ecologògic in certain contexts, though they are not always interchangeable.
