This approach offers environmental benefits by diverting waste from landfills and reducing the demand for virgin oils. Another emerging category of raw materials includes microbial oils produced by algae or yeast, which hold potential for high yields and reduced land-use impact, although their commercial viability is still under development. The sustainability and lifecycle assessment of different feedstocks are crucial considerations in the production of biodiesel.
