A betalningsanmärkning, often translated as a payment remark or credit record, is an official notation in Sweden that signifies a person has failed to pay a debt. This remark is recorded by credit reporting agencies such as UC (Upplysningscentralen). It typically arises after a court has issued a payment order, and the individual has not paid the debt within the specified timeframe.

The primary consequence of having a betalningsanmärkning is that it severely impacts an individual's ability to obtain credit. This includes applying for loans, mortgages, car financing, or even renting an apartment. Landlords and financial institutions will check an applicant's credit history, and a betalningsanmärkning will usually lead to a rejection. A betalningsanmärkning remains on an individual's credit record for three years from the date of the court's decision. During this period, it is crucial to manage finances responsibly.
