Bandpasslådor, often referred to as band-pass enclosures, are a type of loudspeaker enclosure designed to reproduce a specific range of frequencies, typically in the bass region. Unlike a simple sealed or ported enclosure, a band-pass design uses two chambers separated by a driver. One chamber is usually sealed, while the other is ported to the outside. The port's tuning and the volumes of both chambers determine the enclosure's frequency response and its ability to pass through a particular band of frequencies.

This design offers several advantages. Band-pass enclosures can provide a significant increase in efficiency and output within their designed frequency range compared to simpler enclosures. This makes them popular for subwoofers where high output is desired. They also offer good protection for the speaker driver, as it is enclosed within the two chambers, reducing exposure to dust and physical damage.

However, band-pass designs also come with drawbacks. They can be more complex to design and build accurately, requiring precise calculations for chamber volumes and port dimensions. The sound quality can sometimes be less accurate or "flabby" compared to other enclosure types, as the filtered output may lack the detail and transient response of a well-designed sealed or ported box. The steep roll-off of the frequency response outside the passband can also be a consideration for system integration. Despite these limitations, band-pass enclosures remain a viable option for applications prioritizing high bass output and driver protection.
