Bacteria, also known as bacteria, are a type of biological cell. They constitute a large domain of prokaryotic microorganisms. They can also be classified as aerobic (requiring oxygen) or anaerobic (not requiring oxygen). Bacteria reproduce through a process called binary fission, where a single bacterium divides into two identical daughter cells. This process allows bacteria to rapidly colonize new environments.

Understanding bacteria is crucial in fields like medicine, agriculture, and environmental science. Advances in bacterial research have led to the development of antibiotics to treat bacterial infections and biotechnological applications, such as the production of enzymes and biofuels. However, the study of bacteria also raises ethical and safety concerns, particularly regarding the potential for misuse in biological warfare or the creation of antibiotic-resistant strains.
