axonale

Axonale is an adjective relating to an axon, the elongated projection of a neuron that transmits electrical impulses. The form is most commonly encountered in Romance-language scientific writing, where the corresponding English term is axonal. In Italian, for example, the word is used in phrases such as degenerazione assonale or trasporto assonale to describe axon-related processes; in other languages with similar roots, equivalent terms exist as well. In English-language neuroscience, axonal is standard, and axonale can appear mainly in translated texts, historical literature, or as a proper noun in specific contexts.

In neuroscience, axonal relates to the structure and function of axons. Topics described with this root include
