Avsändarsidan, or the sender’s side, is a term used to describe the actor or entity that originates and transmits a message. It denotes who is responsible for producing the content and often what goals or motives may accompany it. The concept is commonly contrasted with mottagarsidan, the recipient’s side, which concerns how the message is received, interpreted, and acted upon.

The term is used across several fields. In postal correspondence, avsändarsidan refers to the sender’s name and return address, as well as the date and any identifying marks such as a company logo. In digital communication, including email and messaging, avsändarsidan covers the From address and display name, and can include technical authentication data (for example SPF, DKIM, and DMARC) and digital signatures used to verify origin and integrity. In media, marketing and public communications, avsändarsidan identifies the organization or individual responsible for the message, its stated purpose, and any inherent biases or interests.

In information literacy and critical media studies, evaluating the avsändarsidan helps readers assess credibility and accountability. Understanding who is behind a message can reveal potential conflicts of interest, agenda, or manipulation attempts, and informs how the content should be interpreted in relation to other sources.
