Autoklavoinnilla, known in English as autoclaving, is a sterilization method that uses steam under pressure. The term "autoklavoinnilla" is often used in Finnish to refer to the process or the equipment used for it, the autoclave. This method is highly effective for decontaminating a wide range of materials, including laboratory equipment, medical instruments, and waste materials.

The basic principle of autoclaving involves exposing items to saturated steam at a specific temperature and pressure for a set duration. Typical parameters for effective sterilization are 121 degrees Celsius (250 degrees Fahrenheit) at 15 psi (103 kPa) for 15-20 minutes.
