Atrybutu is the genitive singular form of the Polish noun atrybut, which means attribute, property, or feature. The noun atrybut derives from Latin attributum and entered Polish through historical scholarly and technical vocabulary. In general usage, the word appears in phrases describing characteristics of objects or data, with atrybutu used when the attribute is possessed, described, or specified by another word, as in “wartość atrybutu” (the value of the attribute).

In linguistics, an attribute is a modifier of a noun that describes or limits its reference. Adjectives used to describe nouns are often treated as attributes; for example, in the phrase “red car,” the word red is an attribute of car. In HTML and other markup languages, an attribute specifies a characteristic of an element, such as href in a link or src in an image. In Polish technical writing, these uses are translated as atrybut.

Synonyms include cecha and właściwość; nuance varies by field, with atrybut often signaling a descriptive or identifying property, while cecha can emphasize a characteristic, and właściwość a more general property.
