armurier
An armurier, or armorer, is a craftsman or technician who designs, makes, repairs, and maintains weapons and related equipment. The term is used in French to denote a professional who works with firearms, armor, or both, and is commonly translated as gunsmith or armorer in English. Etymology: from Old French arme (weapon) and armure (armor). Historically, armuriers specialized in armor for knights and soldiers, forging plates, joints, and rivets. After gunpowder adoption, many armuriers expanded to firearms, producing or modifying barrels, locks, triggers, and stocks, and offering maintenance services. In modern contexts, armuriers work in several sectors: civilian gun shops and manufacturing facilities focusing on firearms; military or police armories responsible for issuing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing service weapons and ammunition; and film or stage productions where a licensed armorer handles prop firearms and ensures safety on set.
