Arhivaariate is a Finnish term that refers to a specialized digital framework used for the preservation and management of archival records. The word combines the Finnish noun arhivaari, meaning “archive,” with the suffix -ate, indicating a system or process. It emerged in the early 1990s as a response to the increasing need for efficient digital services in public and private archives across Finland. The first dedicated arhivaariate platform was launched by the National Library of Finland in 1994 to support the digitisation of manuscripts, newspapers and government documents.
