Archaeogastropoda is a taxonomic subclass of marine snails, a type of gastropod mollusk. This group represents some of the most primitive living gastropods, retaining many ancestral features. They are characterized by a generally simpler shell structure compared to more derived gastropods. Typically, archaeogastropods possess a low, conical shell that is not coiled in a spiraled fashion. They have a single gill and a single auricle (a part of the heart), which is a primitive trait. Their radula, a ribbon-like structure with teeth used for feeding, is also relatively simple.

The diet of archaeogastropods varies, but many are grazers that feed on algae or bacteria. Some species are detritivores, consuming organic matter found on the seafloor. They inhabit a wide range of marine environments, from shallow intertidal zones to deep-sea habitats. Common examples of archaeogastropods include limpets, abalone, and top snails. These snails are found in oceans worldwide. Their evolutionary significance lies in their position as early diverging lineages within the Gastropoda, offering insights into the early evolution of this diverse group. They are an important component of many marine ecosystems, playing roles as herbivores and food sources for other animals.
