Arbitraaivõimalused, often translated as arbitrage opportunities, refer to the simultaneous buying and selling of an asset in different markets to profit from price discrepancies. This strategy exploits the fact that identical or similar assets may be trading at slightly different prices in different locations or on different exchanges. Arbitrageurs aim to capture the difference between these prices before the market corrects itself and the prices realign.

For arbitrage to be profitable, several conditions must be met. Firstly, the price difference must be significant enough to cover transaction costs, such as brokerage fees and taxes. Secondly, the arbitrage opportunity must exist for a sufficient duration to allow the trades to be executed. In highly efficient markets, these opportunities tend to be short-lived as traders quickly exploit them, leading to price convergence.

There are various types of arbitrage, including risk-free arbitrage, which involves no risk, and risk arbitrage, which may involve some degree of uncertainty. Risk-free arbitrage is rare and typically involves assets like currency exchange or highly liquid securities. Risk arbitrage, on the other hand, often arises in situations like mergers and acquisitions, where the success of the deal introduces an element of risk. Sophisticated trading algorithms and high-frequency trading have made pure arbitrage increasingly difficult to find and exploit for individual investors.
