Anticyklon is a meteorological term referring to a high-pressure system. In such systems, atmospheric pressure is significantly higher than that of the surrounding atmosphere. Air within an anticyclone typically sinks, or subsides, from the upper atmosphere towards the surface. This sinking motion warms the air, inhibiting the formation of clouds and leading to clear skies and settled weather.
