antiTPOarvoista
AntiTPOarvoista refers to the measurement of anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (anti-TPO antibodies) in the blood. Thyroid peroxidase is an enzyme crucial for the production of thyroid hormones. In certain autoimmune conditions affecting the thyroid gland, the immune system mistakenly produces antibodies that target and attack this enzyme. The presence and level of anti-TPO antibodies can indicate an autoimmune thyroid disease, most commonly Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an inflammation of the thyroid gland that can lead to hypothyroidism. They can also be present in Graves' disease, another autoimmune thyroid disorder that often causes hyperthyroidism.
Elevated anti-TPO antibody levels suggest that the body's immune system is attacking its own thyroid tissue.
