Antennajajták refers to the various types of antennas used for transmitting and receiving radio waves. The fundamental purpose of an antenna is to convert electrical energy into electromagnetic waves or vice versa. Their design and performance are heavily influenced by factors such as frequency of operation, desired radiation pattern, bandwidth, and impedance.

A common classification is based on their shape and operating principle. Dipole antennas, perhaps the simplest, consist of two conductive elements. The half-wave dipole is a widely used example. Monopole antennas are another basic type, typically a single rod elevated above a ground plane. Yagi-Uda antennas, often seen on rooftops, are directional antennas consisting of multiple elements, including a driven element, a reflector, and one or more directors, used for specific frequency bands.

Parabolic reflector antennas, characterized by their dish shape, focus radio waves to a central feed point, making them highly directional and suitable for satellite communication and microwave links. Horn antennas are flared waveguide openings that radiate radio waves directly and are often used at microwave frequencies. Loop antennas, as their name suggests, are made of conductive loops and can be resonant or non-resonant.

The choice of antenna type depends critically on the application. For broadcasting, omnidirectional antennas are often preferred to cover a wide area. For point-to-point communication, directional antennas are essential to concentrate power and improve signal strength. Modern antenna technology also includes specialized types like phased arrays, which can electronically steer their radiation beam without physical movement, and metamaterial antennas, which utilize engineered materials to achieve novel electromagnetic properties.
