Aluskatlasse, also known as the Arctic fox or white fox, is a small, agile member of the canine family that inhabits the Arctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It is well-adapted to its cold environment, with a thick coat that provides insulation and turns white in the winter to help it blend with the snow and ice. The aluskatlasse has a distinctive appearance, featuring a bushy tail, pointed ears, and a body length of about 40-50 cm, with a shoulder height of 25-30 cm. Its diet consists primarily of small mammals, birds, and their eggs, which it hunts using its keen senses and stealth.

The aluskatlasse is a solitary animal, with the exception of mating pairs during the breeding season. It is known for its adaptability and resilience, able to survive in harsh conditions with minimal food and water. The species is listed as Least Concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, although its population may be declining due to habitat loss and climate change. The aluskatlasse plays an important role in the Arctic ecosystem as a predator and scavenger, helping to control populations of small mammals and birds. Its scientific name, Vulpes lagopus, reflects its Arctic origins, with "lagopus" meaning "hare-footed" in Greek, a reference to its long hind legs that aid in its agile movement across snow and ice.
