aloitusmuoto
Aloitusmuoto, literally “initial form” in Finnish, is a term used in several disciplines, most notably in mathematics, to denote the leading or first-form of a mathematical object under a chosen order or valuation. In algebraic geometry and commutative algebra, the aloitusmuoto of a polynomial with respect to a weight vector or monomial order is the sum of those terms of the polynomial that have the minimal weight. For a polynomial f = sum c_alpha x^alpha, and a weight vector w, the initial form in_w(f) consists of all terms whose w-weight w·alpha is minimal. This concept extends to ideals: the initial ideal in_w(I) is generated by the initial forms of all elements of I. Initial forms are central in Gröbner basis theory, degeneration arguments, and tropical geometry, where they encode the first-order behavior of polynomials and varieties under a chosen degeneration.
In Finnish language studies, aloitusmuoto can appear as a label for the starting or base form of
