alofuscus

Alofuscus is a genus of small to medium-sized, nocturnal mammals native to Africa. The genus includes two species, Alofuscus rufus and Alofuscus balfouri. Alofuscus rufus, also known as the red bush squirrel, is found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, while Alofuscus balfouri, or Balfour's bush squirrel, is found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. Both species are arboreal and inhabit dense forests, where they feed on fruits, seeds, and insects. Alofuscus species are known for their distinctive red fur, which helps them blend into their forest habitats. They are social animals, living in groups and communicating through a variety of vocalizations. Alofuscus species are listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, as their populations are stable and they do not face significant threats. However, habitat loss due to deforestation and hunting for bushmeat pose potential risks to their long-term survival.
