Alkoksien is a term used in organic chemistry to refer to organic compounds that contain an alkoxy group. An alkoxy group is a functional group with the general formula R-O-, where R is an alkyl or aryl group and the hyphen indicates a point of attachment to another atom or molecule. These groups are derived from alcohols by the removal of a hydrogen atom from the hydroxyl (-OH) group.

The oxygen atom in the alkoxy group is typically sp3 hybridized, with two lone pairs of electrons. This electron richness contributes to the reactivity of alkoxy groups. Alkoksien compounds are commonly encountered as ethers, where two alkyl or aryl groups are linked by an oxygen atom (R-O-R'). In ethers, both R groups are alkoxy-derived fragments. For example, methoxyethane (CH3CH2OCH3) is an alkoksien compound where one alkoxy group is ethoxy (CH3CH2O-) and the other is methoxy (CH3O-).

Alkoksien functional groups are found in a wide variety of organic molecules, including natural products, pharmaceuticals, and industrial chemicals. Their presence influences the physical and chemical properties of a molecule, such as solubility, boiling point, and reactivity. The relative stability of the C-O bond in alkoxy groups makes them useful as protecting groups in organic synthesis.
