Aliverkkoa is a term used in Finnish information technology to describe the process of subnetting a network. The word combines ali- meaning sub- with verkko meaning network, and the verb form -koa indicates an action. In practice, aliverkkoa refers to dividing a larger IP network into smaller subnets to improve address utilization, routing efficiency, security, and traffic management.

Subnetworking is achieved by applying a subnet mask in IPv4 or by defining a longer prefix in IPv6. Network administrators engage in aliverkkoa through planning the address space, selecting appropriate subnet sizes, and allocating subnets to departments, sites, or VLANs. Routers, switches, and DHCP servers are then configured to recognize and operate with the new subnets.
